Another great creation of Mother Nature as well as one of major tourist attraction in Jaffna peninsula. It is called bottomless well and it has over centuries used for daily usage generation to generation. This well locates near the sea and there is a possibility to use the water for drinking purpose as well. This bottomless was a great and finest creation of nature and people believed this is bottomless. Now today this well has been protected by wire mesh for increasing the protection. There is no any change of water in case it is located very near to the sea. The marine archaeological department decided to make a survey and find whether this well has a bottom or not. Therefore Galle Marine Archeological department went with a team for searching this doubt thing. Finally they able to find the bottom of the well, therefore, Nilaware Bottomless well is a well with the bottom. The depth of the bottom of the well is around 40m. The most important and truly amazing thing there are two types of water found in one well. The water between 10-20m is fresh water from beyond 20m found sea water. There are two layers of water in the same well. The bottom of the well is muddy and not clear due to non-reach of sunlight to the bottom of the well.
